Mel Williams is a Canadian writer, and former news media executive with more than a decade of experience in community news. She earned a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Urban Planning from the University of Waterloo and an MA in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of Gloucestershire, where her thesis examined autopathography, the literature of illness and disability from the patient's perspective.
A recipient of literary and mentor grants from Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, and The Writers' Union of Canada, her debut memoir, Little Flames Under My Skin: Rebuilding a Life, One Neuron at a Time, was the 1st runner-up for the 2025 Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction and will be published by Cynren Press in 2028.
