Now for the cold hard truth about Exploitation Media. It was founded whatever year the back of our shirts say... 2001? When Matthew Jon Smith was in a robot-themed punk band called Robo-Dream-Date under the pseudonym, Dr. Rock. Around that era, Matt had been a huge Nirvana fan and had read Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana by Michael Azerrad, several times, where he learned that Kurt Cobain had ambitions of starting his own indie record label. Cobain would have called this label Exploitation Records. Matt drew up the logo in MS Paint and couldn't wait to slap it on something as fast as he could. When Robo-Dream-Date released their first full-length, Matthew convinced his bandmates to use his label name and logo. Thus, Exploitation Records was born.
