Ben Clark

An agent with The Soho Agency (see other agents at this agency).

About

Well into his second decade of agenting, Ben Clark represents bestselling and award-winning authors across fiction and non-fiction.

Ben collaborates extensively with brands, television producers, and magazines to develop their intellectual property for publication, bringing stories to life across multiple platforms.

When he’s not at his desk, you’ll likely find Ben in the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes, or on his allotment, planting sunflowers with his daughter and nurturing a love for the natural world.

Collapse section Fiction Open

In fiction, Ben is a devoted fan of science fiction, horror, and fantasy, always on the lookout for original worlds, tightly woven plots, and voices from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. He believes in the power of speculative fiction to reflect and reimagine our reality, and he’s eager to discover authors who push the boundaries of the genre. At the moment he is particularly looking for upmarket body horror, book club friendly science fiction and fantasy (although will happily take a look at more genre focused books), time travel and would love to see a really inventive fantasy epic. He has recently enjoyed The Ministry of Time, Piranesi, Gideon the Ninth. He is a romantic at heart and wants to see love triumph over all (he secretly re-reads Lani Taylor’s books at regular intervals). He is actively looking for submissions in these areas so please send him your all your best ideas!

He is a passionate advocate for non-fiction in all its forms—whether it’s narrative-driven storytelling, prescriptive guides, self-help or beautifully illustrated works. His interests span cookery, history, philosophy, economics, memoir, technology, science, business, and nature writing, with a particular focus on books that illuminate the world we live in and deepen our understanding of it. He is always working to broaden his author’s reach across podcast, speaking engagements, presenting opportunities, brand collaborations and digital and film and television platforms.

Agent Impersonation Scams are becoming commonplace.
A legitimate agent will not contact you and request money to represent you. Never pay an agent an up-front fee. That is not how literary agent representation works. Agents earn a commission only after they've landed a publishing deal for you. Also, agents scarcely ever contact writers. If an agent that you haven't queried contacts you about representation, be suspicious. Look up the agent and check if the email address is correct for that agent/agency.
