Bill Goodall

An agent with Bill Goodall Literary Agency & Editorial Services

About

With more than 30 years’ experience in the UK book industry, Bill Goodall has worked for a number of leading publishers including Simon & Schuster, Jessica Kingsley Publishers, and Frances Lincoln. In 2014 he co-founded the A for Authors Literary Agency, and was a director until late 2018, when the business became a solo agency under his own name.

Bill’s passion for books remains undiminished, as does the excitement that comes with the discovery of new and talented writers.

Agent Impersonation Scams are becoming commonplace.
A legitimate agent will not contact you and request money to represent you. Never pay an agent an up-front fee. That is not how literary agent representation works. Agents earn a commission only after they've landed a publishing deal for you. Also, agents scarcely ever contact writers. If an agent that you haven't queried contacts you about representation, be suspicious. Look up the agent and check if the email address is correct for that agent/agency.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the agency/agent.

  • For agency submissions, it is standard to submit a query letter and sample instead of the full manuscript. Do this unless otherwise instructed.
