About

Denise Marcil is owner of Denise Marcil Literary Agency, LLC and vice-president of Marcil-O’Farrell Literary, LLC. She has represented an eclectic range of commercial fiction and nonfiction—from suspense, thrillers, contemporary women’s fiction and romances to business books. Many of these books have appeared on national bestseller lists including The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times. She has built the brands of such authors as Dr. William Sears, America’s pediatrician who Time magazine called “the man who remade motherhood,” and New York Times #1 bestselling author Sherryl Woods. Denise now represents new clients’ self-help and practical nonfiction titles under Marcil-O’Farrell Literary, LLC, which she founded with partner Anne Marie O’Farrell in 2008. Denise has been interviewed in many publications, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The New Yorker, Business Week, Working Woman, and More magazine. She was the featured story in a nationally televised PBS program, “Working Women.” Glamour magazine chose her as one of its Top Ten Outstanding Young Working Women. For many years Denise served on the board of directors of the Association of Authors’ Representatives (AAR) and its predecessor, the Independent Literary Agents Association. She was Literary Vice President for the AAR. She has served on AAR’s Royalties Committee since its inception in 1991. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Communication Arts Institute, the parent organization for The Writer’s Colony at Dairy Hollow in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and the Board of Trustees of Skidmore College, her alma mater. She is a member of the AAR, the Women’s Media Group, the Agent’s Round Table, and the Authors Guild. Her interest and business acumen in nonfiction focus on self-help and popular reference books such as health and wellness, women’s issues, psychology, education, personal growth, and nonfiction that helps people’s lives. She loves commercial, entertaining fiction, up-market women’s fiction and literary suspense.
