Gabrielle Demblon

An agent with Watson, Little Ltd (see other agents at this agency).

About

I joined Watson, Little as an agent in 2024 after six years as a literary scout. I head up the foreign rights department, with the assistance of Ayesha Mukherjee. Together we help Watson, Little authors find publishers around the world. We work directly in all territories, apart from East Asia, where we partner with expert co-agents.

I am also building my own list of authors. I’m looking for literary and upmarket fiction, particularly with queer themes or from unusual/underrepresented perspectives, as well as select upmarket thrillers and nonfiction.

In fiction, I’m drawn to bold hooks and flawed characters, stories that start conversations and challenge assumptions, like Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters, All Fours by Miranda July, Big Swiss by Jen Beagin, and Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte.

I love atmospheric, character-led stories about overlooked or uncomfortable aspects of history and popular culture, like The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden, Ordinary Human Failings by Megan Nolan, Box Hill by Adam Mars Jones, Fire Rush by Jacqueline Crooks, Scatterlings by Rešoketšwe Manenzhe, and The Manningtree Witches by AK Blakemore.

I’m looking for literary speculative/high concept fiction from queer/female/transnational perspectives, in the vein of Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel, Toward Eternity by Anton Hur, Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley, and Triangulum by Masande Ntshanga. I’d also like to find horror reminiscent of works by Carmen Maria Machado, Eliza Clark or Julia Armfield.

In thrillers, I am drawn to atmospheric mysteries involving family secrets, small communities, or epic natural settings, in the vein of Tana French or The God of the Woods by Liz Moore.

Agent Impersonation Scams are becoming commonplace.
A legitimate agent will not contact you and request money to represent you. Never pay an agent an up-front fee. That is not how literary agent representation works. Agents earn a commission only after they've landed a publishing deal for you. Also, agents scarcely ever contact writers. If an agent that you haven't queried contacts you about representation, be suspicious. Look up the agent and check if the email address is correct for that agent/agency.
