About

Jon Elek became an agent in 2009, first at AP Watt, then at United Agents when the companies merged. His wide-ranging list includes several bestselling and prize-winning authors and his clients have received some of the largest advances offered to first-time writers by British and American publishers. Following the completion of a PhD in twentieth century literature, he taught in the English department at UCL and worked as a journalist. He then spent three years at Penguin editing and publishing a range of internationally renowned literary and commercial writers. Jon represents writers in all areas of the market. He is interested in general non-fiction, particularly by journalists, specialists and agenda-setters looking to take their work to a large audience. He also represents cookery, memoir (all kinds), music, sport, true crime, health, business, biography, and history. Jon represents commercial fiction in all genres, including million copy-selling writers of thrillers, suspense and romantic comedies. Every year he represents a small number of debut writers and is always open to submission
