I started in publishing in 1997 as an assistant at Rogers, Coleridge & White. The learning curve was steep but as I began to build my own list I found myself drawn to those writers whose words reverberated with me after I’d put the page down and made me want to talk to everyone (and anyone) about this new voice, this unique talent. In 2006 I set up my own agency and over the following years my authors were listed for and awarded numerous prizes including the Rooney Prize, the Orange Prize, the Booker Prize, the Guardian First Book Award, the Irish Book Award, the Costa First Novel Award, the British Book Award Newcomer of the Year, the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award, the EFG Sunday Times Short Story Prize, the Goldsmiths Prize, the Impac Dublin Literary Award, the Desmond Elliott Prize and the Encore Award. In 2014 I formally joined Aitken Alexander Associates and in November 2016 I moved to C&W.

My list of authors includes those voices I couldn’t stop talking about – from Catherine O’Flynn’s What Was Lost to Kevin Barry’s City of Bohane and Andrew Michael Hurley’s The Loney. I am susceptible to a beautifully-crafted short story that lands and a voice that rings completely true from the first line. I love a world that has complexity and texture and a character I can have a conversation with, and a voice that is of itself and does the almost impossible – lives beyond the author. This is the case for both fiction and non-fiction. I am looking for literary and literary cross-over novels and non-fiction that makes you think, and for anything that stops me in my tracks.
