Matt Turner

An agent with Rogers, Coleridge and White Literary Agency (see other agents at this agency).

About

Matt is looking for writing about society and culture, history and science, as well as memoir and narrative non-fiction - books that shed new light on preconceived ideas, and take readers on a journey they didn't know they wanted to go on. Some of his favourite non-fiction titles include The Wager by David Grann, 1599 by James Shapiro, The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen, and The Ruin of All Witches by Malcolm Gaskill.

In fiction he favours emotionally intelligent storytelling lead by voice, propelled by character and with a vividly realised landscape. His most re-read novels include Waterland by Graham Swift, Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel, An Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro, Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout and Death in Spring by Mercè Rodoreda.

Writers he has worked with have won or been nominated for the Women's Prize for Fiction and Non-Fiction, the Dylan Thomas Prize, the T.S. Eliot Prize, the Forward Prize, the Charlotte Aitken Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award, the Jhalak Prize, the Sunday Times Short Story Prize, the Costa Book Awards, the JCB Prize, the An Post Irish Book Awards, the Betty Trask Award, the Orwell Prize, the Guardian 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize, the White Review Short Story Prize and the Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award.

Agent Impersonation Scams are becoming commonplace.
A legitimate agent will not contact you and request money to represent you. Never pay an agent an up-front fee. That is not how literary agent representation works. Agents earn a commission only after they've landed a publishing deal for you. Also, agents scarcely ever contact writers. If an agent that you haven't queried contacts you about representation, be suspicious. Look up the agent and check if the email address is correct for that agent/agency.
