She’s drawn to transportive fiction that illuminates a specific time, place, or culture as the backdrop to a captivating personal narrative—be they underrepresented stories or otherwise untold. She's a fan of dark and/or darkly humorous stories of women subverting societal expectations or otherwise behaving badly and often against their self-interests, especially conveyed with genre elements of thriller, speculative, or horror. And to keep things lively, she’s always on the hunt for smart contemporary novels that grapple with age-old issues of the heart, relationships, dysfunctional families, and coming of age that feel especially fresh for our times.

Meredith’s nonfiction list is comprised largely of voicey memoir that speaks to the resilience of the human spirit or illustrates the human impact of cultural or geopolitical forces. She is equally drawn to topics of social justice, cultural criticism, music and pop culture, poetry, elevated true crime, deep dives into obscure topics, and personal essays exploring race, class, and identity.
