The Wee Sparrow Poetry Anthology A project of The Wee Sparrow Poetry Press (see other related projects). Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions (March 2025). We provide the following information as an archive. About We invite poets to write about finding beauty in our world beyond the societal norms - the pigeons, snails, rats and other creatures which are so often overlooked due to social conditioning. This could include a love of buildings, perceived flaws, old beloved areas or pieces of furniture, anything that evokes a sense of personal beauty or love, but is overlooked or seen as the opposite of beautiful by a wider world. ´Nature Writing´ can be seen as linked to those with time as a commodity, whereas most take tiny snapshots: a favourite tree, walk to the train station, a park for packed lunch, squeezing in nature where they can. Perhaps you will write about a mini oasis in your urban area, which for most is the extent of wildness that is seen on a regular basis - without driving out of town, or having a lot of spare time to walk out. Or maybe your work will touch upon how urban trees and nature landmarks can be used for navigation, and the sense of place, the inheritance that trees instil, as well as the multidimensional health benefits. We are interested in how we can be within the beauty of nature, without being surrounded by it, your snapshots of unconventional beauty and observations of urban spaces and nature.
