The Christina Luz-Silva Literary Prize for Fiction

A project of DILIM Press (see other related projects).

About

The Christina Luz-Silva Literary Prize for Fiction is awarded every odd-numbered year to the author of one full-length manuscript of literary fiction: short stories, flash fiction, poetry, a novella, or exploratory/crossover work.

The Luz and Silva families of Lipa City, Batangas province in the Philippines were distinguished families who rose to prominence in the region’s “Golden Era” in the nineteenth century. The Philippines at this time became one of the world’s leading coffee producers.

The Luz family was known as a cultured household. They were patrons of the arts, architecture, cultural heritage, literary works, and journalism.

Silva family members were involved with coffee, managed a transport business and an ice plant, and provided electrical power to the town.

Together, the descendants of this family carry an entrepreneurial spirit imbued with an appreciation of Filipino heritage: they work to build deep roots in community engagement and celebrate modern Pinoy culture.
