The Blue Poppy Awards

A project of The Haiku Shack Magazine (see other related projects).

About

The Blue Poppy Awards are named after a delicate flower (Meconopsis betonicifolia) that grows in spring and summer. Renowned for its soothing effect, the blue poppy is native to the Himalayas. Thriving at high altitudes atop rugged mountain terrain, it exemplifies endurance, inner strength, enlightenment, and harmony with nature.

Known as the Flower of Happiness, since ancient times, blue poppies have spiritually symbolized purity, peace, resilience, good fortune, and prosperity. In floriography, they signify imagination, rarity, spiritual growth, mystery, and the pursuit of dreams—the impossible made real. Their romantic meaning conveys the message: you make my dreams come true. Like red poppies, in Western cultures they honor the memory of loved ones.

As unique as each poet, the blue poppy further aligns with the very nature of our Awards.
