This Land Is... Writing Contest A project of Nowhere (see other related projects). Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions (April 2018). We provide the following information as an archive. About In light of recent decisions to dramatically shrink national monuments and open state and federal land to development and resource extraction—in the U.S. and around the world—we have decided to continue the tradition of venerating our public lands. New writer or seasoned journalist, U.S. citizen or international guest, we want to hear your stories about these swaths of preserved landscape. Some are true wilderness; some are working lands. They are bodies of water, deserts, plains, peaks, forests, canyons and meadows. They draw travelers, scientists, artists, activists, explorers and recreationists, the uninitiated and the dedicated.
