Vintage Wisconsin

A project of Wisconsin Writers Association (see other related projects).

Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions (May 2026). We provide the following information as an archive.

About

We are seeking exclusively Wisconsin-based stories about factual people, businesses, culture, lifestyle, or events, living or past. Stories submitted to this contest must not be previously published, though publication on a non-monetized website or blog would not count as published. Biographical sketches of people, memoirs of events, report-style stories about businesses, farms, or cultural or historic events are welcome. Tell us about the lutefisk and lefsa dinners, the sheepshead tournaments, the Fourth of July parties, farm chores, cheese factories, special teacher, or inspiring family member, bobsledding, walleye fishing, church, sport, that big storm, a day on the job. Family histories that focus on a unique or distinct aspect of interest to a wide audience welcome; avoid solely personal stories or essays or myths/legends. True accounts only. Include notes on any applicable research sources, or notice of original source material such as newspaper articles, magazines, diaries, photo albums, textbook, biographies and descriptions of photos only please.

Fees Notice: This project charges fees (or requires purchases) for all submissions, and they do not offer monetary payment for accepted submissions.
The fee is USD $15 (average for contests).

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
