Creating Iris

About

We aim to feature new fiction for teens (roughly, ages 14-17) with an LGBTQAI slant. We want to be a safe place for young adults – a magazine which features engaging, transporting, challenging stories that offer a breath of fresh air in the young adult literary market. There’s a need for realistic fiction geared towards queer kids and their friends. Iris hopes to feature stories with relatable characters and situations in which readers could readily recognize themselves. We want stories that deal with identity and discovery, coming out, the challenges of growing up queer, being a supportive friend, etc. What we don’t want are stories with sex (keep it PG-13), violence, or drug use, as we are aiming for a slightly younger demographic.
