Fiction Open Fee-based

I am always interested in well-written work, but I prefer you engage my intellect as well as my heart. For example, I love literary works of extraordinary depth, by writers like Alice Munro, Rebecca Makkai, Tobias Wolff and Brendan Mathews. Such writers create characters driven by lifetimes of experience, and who live not just in their heads, but also in the world around them.

Nonfiction Open Fee-based

Be brave. Send me the stuff that you never thought would get published anywhere. Send me the thing you have to take a deep breath over before submitting or running by your critique group. I'm always interested in hearing different viewpoints from different sectors of society, and work in different forms, too: I'll read lyrical essays; experimental essays; narrative nonfiction.

Poetry Open Fee-based

In each submission, I am looking for a single, exquisitely written poem that surprises, challenges, and moves the reader. Please send a range of work rather than linked poems or poems that require extensive context to be best appreciated. I am interested primarily in poems in the lyrical, formal, and narrative modes.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Just remember…

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • Be professional, patient and persistent.
