American Western Magazine This project is believed to be defunct. (February 2006) About Short stories may be set in the contemporary, modern or historical West or have a Civil War theme. No hunting or Sci-Fi type stories. Traditional westerns of exceptional quality are also welcome. We look for stories that are fully developed and realistic. The characters should be multi-dimensional and placed within a well-plotted story-line that has a true sense of place. Story must have detail, offering at least one nugget of information from which most readers can learn something new. The story should be fresh and original; please do not send rehashed versions of old TV westerns, or stories whose characters are drawn from country/western songs. No shoot 'em ups. Stories that are comprised of mostly dialogue, or otherwise suffer from the "talking heads" syndrome are the most likely to be rejected.
