About

Augmentative and Alternative Communication publishes peer-reviewed papers focused on all aspects of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). The mission of the journal is to document the evidence base and to advance understanding and improve outcomes for individuals with complex communication needs and their families, including individuals of all ages who have developmental disabilities (e.g., autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome) and those who have acquired disabilities (e.g., disabilities resulting from traumatic brain injury, aphasia, dementia). Augmentative and Alternative Communication is the official journal of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC). As such, the journal has an international and multidisciplinary readership. AAC publishes a wide range of articles, including those that report original research, meta-analyses and systematic reviews of the research, forum notes that propose new theories, tutorials, data-based case studies, reports of technical developments, and research notes. These articles focus on a variety of topics, including the needs and perspectives of individuals who require AAC and other stakeholders, AAC assessment and intervention, education and training of families and professionals, development of innovative AAC systems/technologies, and public policy and advocacy.
