Baltimore Gothic Online

A project of Baltimore Gothic

About

We want stories that probe the psyche of fanatical preachers, hypocritical congregations, and lost souls grappling with guilt, divine judgment, or supernatural retribution. We want tales of fire-and-brimstone sermons masking dark secrets, backwoods revivals spiraling into chaos, and individuals wrestling with personal demons in the shadow of a judgmental deity. This issue should capture the eerie beauty of a South torn between divine grace and its own heart.

What we want:

  • Southern Gothic
  • Dark themes
  • Portraits of madness
  • Portrayals of irrational, abnormal or horrific thoughts or desires
  • Grotesque characters
  • Dark Humor

What we do not want:

  • Mythology
  • Fantasy
  • Slasher
  • Monster Fiction
  • Science Fiction
Voluntary Fees: This project accepts voluntary fees for "tip jar" submissions.
Important: We list their magazine, which has both print and online editions, separately.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
