About

Bellow Literary Journal is an independent print journal which collects the finest cerebral output of today. We publish poetry, short fiction, plays, bits of conversation, micro-fiction, visual art and feature a journalistic venture for writers in every issue called In Sight. Our concern first and foremost is that Bellow be a source of worthwhile writing, and secondly a market for aspiring and established writers. We want to challenge the intelligence. Our bellow is a collective one; each page flows seamlessly into the next, incorporating every medium at our disposal and redefining the relationship between visual art and text.

Collapse section Fiction Believed Defunct

We want writing that is transcendent. We are living in a post-modern world; there are no longer any rules for you to break. Which means if you want to set your writing apart IT MUST SHOULDER THE WEIGHT OF ITS STYLE. That is to say WRITE WITH BOLDNESS. Or write with timidity and stick to it. Own your writing. We are fiction fans with an eye for poetic style and strong voice.

Collapse section Poetry Believed Defunct

We are interested in poems that reformulate the way we see language. This means that we want to be engaged both by the subject and the object: the sign and the signifier. Our tool is the word, not the sentence. Daddy isn't home. Break something! Don't be scared of thoughtless word association. But always bring us back. Poems in Bellow must resist the intelligence ALMOST successfully.
