Body Lines A Contemporary Journal of New Long Fiction

A project of Subtle Body Press (see other related projects).

Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions (July 2026). We provide the following information as an archive.

About

From a genre standpoint, anything goes. Across Body Lines and Body Shots, we’ve published everything from slice‑of‑life, stream‑of‑consciousness, horror, comedy, science fiction, slipstream, transgression, crime fiction, weird fiction, contemporary realism, historical fiction, and surrealism — the light, the dark, the soft, the edgy, the experimental, and the traditional.

When it comes to our selection criteria, “genre is a construct; genre does not exist.” We do not curate our selections to make the book adhere to any particular label or aesthetic throughline.

What matters to us is ambition. We want writers’ big swings — the work you write when you’re most in tune with your own voice and willing to push that voice to its limits.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
