Broad Street

Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions (September 2021). We provide the following information as an archive.

About

Broad Street features true stories told in different ways. Narrative writing, researched reflection, experimental truth-telling, photo essays, poetry, interviews, and all forms of visual art come together. We are most receptive to prose and poetry that rises above the me-moir to provide substantial reflection on cultural phenomena. Our features range from the very personal to the scientific: ethnographic investigations into hard snuff and ayahuasca in the Amazon, the cultural significance of Barbie and Midge for female friendship, a photo essay on soldiers during and after deployment in Afghanistan, poetry on Puritan nomenclature, lyrical prose on leaving home, and interviews with writers, a Tony-winning costume designer, and a major cinematic visual-effects designer. Featured authors and artists include Yehudah Amichai, Alan Cheuse, Susann Cokal, TyRuben Ellingson, Chad Hunt, Deborah Jiang-Stein, Joshua Poteat, Paisley Rekdal, Glenn Shepard, Jeanette Winterson.

Fees Notice: This project charges fees (or requires purchases) for all submissions, and they do not offer monetary payment for accepted submissions. (Note: About 8% of magazines always charge fees.)
