About Founded by like-minded activists, writers, and readers in 2006, DesiLit Magazine will be a biannual online magazine, publishing in Summer and Winter. We are committed to creating a forum for exceptional contemporary writing and art focused on South Asia* and the diaspora. Our magazine will print essays, fiction, humor, poetry, reviews, and art. We plan to attract, nurture, and promote artists whose work breaks established molds attached to definitions of South Asia, and hope to showcase their material so that it is accessible to all audiences. We are also interested in pieces that celebrate traditional art forms. Country of Publication United States Publication Medium & Frequency Electronic Publication Electronic PublicationPublished 2 x per year Collapse section Fiction Closed We want to publish fiction that pushes the boundaries of current South Asian literature. We are interested in writers that transcend traditional "literary" or "genre" fiction, and seek new and hybrid forms of creating insightful and innovative fiction. We want fiction that is simultaneously entertaining and enlightening; that experiments with language and form as long as the story is more than just a pile of pretty or inventive words or a creative gimmick.Audience:UnknownGenres: Open to all/most Genres, including: General Subgenres: Cross-Genre, SlipstreamLengths: Flash Fiction: Up to 1,000 words. Collapse section Poetry Closed DesiLit Magazine welcomes submissions of poetry in all genres and styles. We are looking for unique poetry: that negotiates between the topical and the eternal, that shows South Asian culture as one of the variations of human culture, that not only extends but also disrupts our beings, that plays with our prejudices and our politics, If you can do all this with a sparkle and a sting, all the better. We will love it if your work can relay images, fragments, conversations, histories, the color of the streets you pass everyday.Audience:UnknownGenres: Open to all/most Genres, including: General Subgenres: Cross-Genre, SlipstreamLengths: Poem: No line limits known.Poetry Forms:Open to all/most Forms.Styles:UnknownTopics:None found.Payment:Semi-pro payment (US$5-49 per poem) Semi-pro payment (US$5-49 per poem).Note: We list broad pay categories rather than payment specifics.
