Drip Castle This project is on indefinite hiatus. Check their site to find out whether this is a submission and/or publication hiatus. About I have long enjoyed looking at old poems and stories I wrote when I was a child/adolescent. Aside from their inherent comedic value, I’ve come to appreciate them for the efforts that they were; they may not have been great (or even good) literature, but I meant every word of them. Every artist experiences the embarrassment of reading something they created when they were younger and less experienced, and as much as I sometimes wish I’d never written some of the things I did, I know that all things are built from the bottom up. Or, for an even more convoluted metaphor, a lifetime of making art is like building a drip castle: in the beginning it’s sloppy and it’s ugly, but the more you add to it, the more it starts to look like something great. Or whatever. In any event, that’s why I want to celebrate these literary and creative journeys with a new online journal. Ostensibly, interested artists will submit two relatively short pieces: something they wrote/painted/drew/etc. as a child, adolescent or young adult, and something created recently. Ideally, these pieces will demonstrate the growth of the artist. The pieces themselves do not have to be related in terms of theme, plot, etc., but that would be awesome. Even more awesome would be a revision or re-working of a novice piece, submitted with the original.
