About

Ekto is an online literary quarterly specialising in flash fiction. It is run entirely by authors, translators, and students of comparative literature in some way shape or form. On an entirely different and equally important level, it is run by four multilingual friends who are passionate about excellent short fiction. Ekto is an attempt to push literature outside the geographic and linguistic boundaries in which it is contained. It is an active embrace of world literature, multilingualism, and the power of the short form. The indie publishing world in English has opened up new and exciting avenues for many talented writers but has yet to do the same for those writing in other languages. Ekto is an attempt to remedy this.

While we are open to any and all genres, we have a particular fondness for slipstream, magic realism, edgy surrealism, urban fantasy, weird fiction, language play, stories about border crossings, bodily transgressions, and life in the age of globalisation. But at the end of the day, we want your best work. We want to read your work and wish we had written it. There is a reason it’s called flash fiction. Write with a bang.
