About

Four Chambers (founded June 2013) is an independent community literary magazine and small press based in Phoenix, AZ whose mission is to give greater visibility to the literary arts and encourage their larger participation in the cultural scene. We don't really have a specific aesthetic agenda. There are lot of different people involved in this; we like a lot of different things. We're trying to publish contemporary literature. That could be anything, now. We don't know what that means. We don't know what we like until we actually get a chance to read it. We spend a lot of time reading. We publish work from authors who are established, emerging, unknown, uninterested, or don't even think of themselves as authors in the first place. We think of ourselves as a heart: something centralized, organic, and part of a larger body; that connects, supports, and circulates life. For us, submissions are less about what we can and can't publish than it is a way to get to know you a little better, than it is a chance to meet. We're not really here to publish a literary magazine; we're here to bring people together and build community. We want to provide you with opportunities to live and work with people around you. We want you to be empowered to achieve your goals.
