Freud and Kinsey Magazine MATURE CONTENT

Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions. We provide the following information as an archive.

About

Sigmund Freud is probably most remember for penis envy but for the 1800's, his work on sexual repression was ground breaking and liberating for both men and women. He altered boundaries and social conventions. Alfred Kinsey did the same with The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex. The Kinsey Reports generated from this research dropped the notion of heterosexuality on its head in the 1950's. And yet in 2010 few adults are without sexual hang ups of one kind or another. We're taught on some level that sex is bad, dirty, and ugly. Freud and Kinsey Magazine is a product of Gecko Publishing. It is an online literary journal that explores sex and sexuality through fiction, personal stories, essays, and art.

We're looking for stories along the lines of the Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, but with sexual repression being a stronger theme. We want pieces that examine how sex influences us in our day to day lives. We want sexual conundrums and messy situations. We're also interested in psychosis and neurosis. We'd also love stories about the awkwardness of a first time and embarrassing moments. We welcome stories that deals with sex directly, but we're especially interested in the indirect way sex influences our lives. At it's heart, sex is biology and we cannot avoid it. Show us characters who try and show us the opposite.
