Gnome & Bone Magazine

About

Gnome & Bone is an independent literary magazine cultivating an ever-growing forest of fantasy and folklore. Rooted in myth, magic, and the gothic imagination, we publish stories, poetry, and artwork online and in print. While we hold a particular love for cozy fantasy and folklore, we welcome all corners of the genre: epic, dark, whimsical, gothic, absurd, and beyond. What matters most is immersion. Work that reads predominantly modern or feels disconnected from fantasy and folklore at its core tends to be a harder sell for us. Should your offering survive the forest, you may see your piece acquire a Bone Ballot, a fun interactive feature we offer our readers.

Collapse section Visual Art Temp Closed

Gnome & Bone also welcomes visual art that embodies the spirit of the magazine.

We are drawn to artwork that feels mythic, strange, intimate, or unsettling—pieces that could exist beside our stories like relics pulled from the same dark soil. Illustration, painting, collage, photography, mixed media, and experimental digital works are all welcome.

Think bones and moss, forgotten gods, soft horrors, ancient magic, feminine rage, and liminal spaces. Your work does not need to explain itself. It only needs to feel like it belongs here.
