Granta The Magazine of New Writing About Granta does not have a political or literary manifesto, but it does have a belief in the power and urgency of the story, both in fiction and non-fiction, and the story’s supreme ability to describe, illuminate and make real. As the Observer wrote of Granta: ‘In its blend of memoirs and photojournalism, and in its championing of contemporary realist fiction, Granta has its face pressed firmly against the window, determined to witness the world.’ Our criteria for publication are best gauged by a close reading of the magazine. We focus mainly on fiction, memoir and reportage, with a bias towards the interesting and unusual. Fees Notice: This project charges fees (or requires purchases) for all submissions, except for limited free submissions for low-income writers. (Note: About 8% of magazines always charge fees.) The fee is GBP £3.50 (above average for magazines that charge).
