Helen: A Literary Magazine See other projects related to this listing. Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions (December 2025). We provide the following information as an archive. About Our focus is on expanding the perspective of the city and greater Southern Nevadan area as well as giving a special spotlight to the local and diverse talent living here and originally from here. The name Helen was inspired by the “First Lady of Las Vegas,” Helen J. Stewart, a pioneer who helped forge the valley in the 1880s. We seek pieces that feature a distinct flavor and sentiment of Vegas culture, the kind of stories that highlight the ordinary as well as the extraordinary. We appreciate well-written literary fiction in all genres. We hope the work of Helen helps to open the imagination of all those who read her. Helen also seeks work of creative nonfiction, artwork, short film, and video and audio files featuring spoken word.
