Indecent Magazine

This project is on indefinite hiatus. Check their site to find out whether this is a submission and/or publication hiatus. (March 2023)

About

Indecent is an online magazine for queer voices that forget their place. They get too loud and demand too much attention. They’re too risqué, too unrelatable, too much for the audiences of prominent literary journals, underground horror zines, and everything in between. We’re here for the poetry, fiction, art, and multimedia work that is simply… Indecent.

Collapse section Fiction On Hiatus

We want gay campfire stories, trans fairy tales, literary retellings with unlikeable lesbians, gothic horror with nonbinary protagonists, and everything in between. From bisexual cryptids to polyamorous cowboys to space-faring enbies, we want your best: not necessarily your most polished, though we love to see beautiful high-literary work, but your most creative. We’re into your wildest, most off-the-wall ‘what-if’ moments and your slowest, most carefully-crafted purple prose. As long as it’s fiction, written by or about at least one Queer person, we’re chomping at the bit to read your work.

Collapse section Nonfiction On Hiatus

We love essays that make the personal into the aesthetic into the political, which is shorthand for saying we love high-quality nonfiction that can make us really examine the connections and disconnections in the world around us. More popular narratives surrounding the Queer experience will be a hard sell for us because they’re an easier sell everywhere else: unicorn chasing, GBFs, lesbians pure as the driven snow, and being lonely in the closet are all important stories to have and to tell, but they’re more easily published via other avenues. We’re especially here for challenging thinkpieces, funny coincidences, overly honest cringe-fests, and expressions of Queer joy and euphoria.
