ISSUED stories of service

About

Launched in May 2023 with sponsorship from the Office for Veteran and Military Academic Engagement at Arizona State University, ISSUED is a journal that highlights veterans’ voices through poetry and prose that upholds the standards of military-inspired literature, which has undeniably shaped the American literary landscape.

Because we believe in cultivating a national readership while maintaining our community ethos, ISSUED also features profiles of veterans who are doing extraordinary work in their communities, whether it be through the arts, education, mental health, or advocacy.

Finally, because we believe in the healing power of narrative medicine and its efficacy for veterans, we hope that ISSUED will serve as a resource for veterans’ writing circles, discussion groups, treks, etc. Ultimately, we want to help grow a heathier veteran community.

Limited Demographic: Submissions are restricted to active-duty military members, veterans, and their families.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
