Muscle & Blood

Muscle & Blood is a literary reaction to modern culture in the form of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and photography. We publish works that reflect on, subvert, or capture the modern world in all its ugliness and beauty. Things we publish include: realism, melancholy, creative nonfiction in all its forms, stories with three-dimensional characters and good dialog, poems with good word choice, imagery, sound, structure, and meaning (style and substance combined), poems we can visualize, poems that read well aloud, working-class writing, and writing by members of marginalized groups or colonized nations. Things we don’t publish include: fiction with nothing but exposition (unless it’s by Gabriel Garcia-Marquez, which it isn’t), thinly-veiled, artless political rants in the form of “fiction” or “poetry,” prose disguised as poetry, genre fiction, stories and poems about bourgeois culture, haiku, and, finally, any writing by authors more concerned with their egos than writing well.
