About

Native Skin is an online literary magazine directly devoted to advancing equality by celebrating a noted point of exclusion—skin. But not exclusively skin. We celebrate all forms of diversity, from ethnic and cultural differences to sexual orientation and neurodivergence. Parity is the basis and central tenet of our publishing philosophy. A desire for parity in this magazine stems from a genuine desire for and love of a diverse community of voices. Our founder grew up as a minority in a diverse neighborhood and, despite all appearances, was born from a diverse assortment of peoples. To this end, we’ve made a conscious effort to put parity first in our selection process from day one. While we are limited only by the number of contributors from a given demographic, notable shortages in a demographic motivates us to adjust our advertising outreach and motivates us to work with artists who are still looking for their unique voice. You shouldn’t have to be already excellent to find a seat at the proverbial table. We hope to be a place where excellence and growth coexist and challenge each other.
