Scrutiny is a journal that seeks literary fiction, specifically that which falls under the category of magical realism. Our aim is to promote the work of emerging writers and artists alongside those who have mastered their craft. We want writing that examines themes and artwork that scrutinizes tone.

Scrutiny is predominately a journal of magical realism, but we define the genre pretty loosely. So, we’re open to science fiction, fantasy, and any other story that might fit nicely on the site.

Horror Subgenres: Magic Realism, Psychological, Retrofuturism
Science Fiction Open to all/most Subgenres, including: Retrofuturism

Flash Fiction: 500 - 1,000 words.
Short Story: 1,000 - 3,000 words.

Styles:

Open to all/most Styles, including: Literary, Surrealist.

Topics:

Open to all/most Topics.

Payment:
