Syncopation Literary Journal

About

“Syncopation” refers to an accented beat that occurs when the listener least expects it. Syncopation adds rhythmic interest to a piece of music. Syncopation Literary Journal seeks unique stories that pique a reader’s interest from the opening line.

Syncopation Literary Journal is a free online open-access literary journal for musicians, and for writers inspired by music. Syncopation Literary Journal aims to present readers with poetry, short stories, flash fiction, and creative nonfiction penned by musicians who dabble in all forms of creative writing. The Journal also welcomes such works from writers inspired by music.

Short literary pieces are akin to songs–they can be relished multiple times, and stay with an audience long after the first encounter.

Syncopation Journal welcomes writing from new and emerging, as well as established, musicians and writers.

Important: Some submission periods may be restricted to specific demographics; as always, check their current guidelines before submitting.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
