The Oxonian Review

About

The Oxonian Review was established in 2001 at Balliol College, Oxford as The Oxonian Review of Books, a termly magazine featuring essays and reviews of recently published work in literature, politics, history, science, and the arts. It was redesigned in 2009 as a web-based magazine, publishing fortnightly during term time, and annually in print, and was renamed The Oxonian Review. In January 2022, the publication launched a new website and opened its staff to undergraduates.

The Oxonian publishes both emerging and established writers, serving as a home for early-career editors and critics, as much as a venue for prominent academics, essayists, poets, and writers of fiction. The magazine encourages variety and experiment more than polish and perfection. As an independent publication, run by students from around the world, The Oxonian provides a forum for the international exchange of literature and ideas. We are always interested in hearing from writers and readers outside of Oxford.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
