The Sam Hill! Review

Fledgling Listing: This project is new and has been listed with us for less than six months.

About

The Sam Hill! Review publishes historical fiction & poetry that makes you say: “now that was good as SAM HILL!”

Somebody made off with historical fiction & left the indie lit mags holding an empty bag. WHAT IN THE SAM HILL?! We want it back. We want wild, funny, gorgeous, difficult, irreverent work that smashes the museum display case.

Send us the past with the dust still on it. Send us the faces the microfilm reader washed out & mangled. Send us the voices nobody bothered to transcribe. History was never told in one voice, & neither is this journal: we especially want work from writers who’ve been historically in the margins — BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, older, disabled, & neurodivergent writers, & anyone whose angle on the past we haven’t heard yet.

Voluntary Fees: This project accepts voluntary fees for "tip jar" submissions.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
