The Steampunk Annual A project of Burnt Bridge (see other related projects). Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions. We provide the following information as an archive. About We are specifically looking for steampunk material that is imbued with a distinctly American flair. What does this mean, exactly? Good question. What is American Literature in general? What factors make it distinct from its British counterpart? One, of course, is setting (i.e. to some degree taking place on the North American continent). Another is class structures and the stereotypes that go along with them. America (more in idea than in practice) is about breaking down class distinctions and other such false social barriers. Americans don’t care a jot for royalty or nobility. America is knuckles in the grit, bite off your bottle caps, hard-nosed business (or so we fancy ourselves). So, don’t send us your very artfully (bending your thesaurus to its limits) written rendition of Jack the Ripper with gadgets. Send us, instead, Moby Dick with an airship and Ishmael toting a revolver sniper rifle (don’t literally send us that, but, well, you get the idea).
