About

Codhill Press was founded in 1998 by David Appelbaum, then editor of Parabola Magazine. Its original voice was conceived as lying at the intersection of spiritual, literary, and poetic thought: a home for books that speak to readers in search of meaning, depth, and transcendent value.

From the beginning, Codhill drew on a wide circle of interests, including traditional texts of Buddhism, teaching stories from wisdom traditions, philosophy, dance, and the iconic art of Frederick Franck. Alongside this work, the Press developed a strong and enduring commitment to contemporary poetry.

Today, Codhill continues to publish books for the serious seeker while also offering a wider literary list. Our catalog includes poetry, fiction, memoir, literary nonfiction, leadership and reflective business titles, and books in translation. We also publish Forsythia, our Korean literature imprint, which brings contemporary Korean voices to English-language readers.

Codhill publishes approximately four to six books a year. We seek work of literary distinction, intellectual depth, and lasting value, and we remain committed to publishing books that are carefully edited, beautifully made, and built to endure.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • For book publishers, it is standard to submit a cover letter, synopsis, and sample instead of the full manuscript. Do this unless otherwise instructed.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
