About

Death by TBR Books was built for the horror that creeps in quietly and refuses to leave.

We gravitate toward stories that flicker like a candle in a dark hallway, tales that chill the room, linger in the mind, and whisper long after the book is closed. Our shelves are filled with the uncanny, the nostalgic, the unsettling, and the beautifully eerie — the kind of horror that feels alive.

We believe the genre becomes even more haunting when every storyteller has a place at the fire. Death by TBR Books is devoted to lifting up creators who have been overlooked or pushed aside: women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ writers, disabled and neurodivergent authors, and anyone whose voice has been told it doesn’t belong. We welcome stories that twist, distort, and break the rules in all the best ways.

Death by TBR Books is more than an indie press and a bookstore. It is a haunt. A gathering point for readers who crave a shiver and writers who aren’t afraid to follow the dark path into the unknown. Our mission is simple: offer stories that give you goosebumps and build a home for horror that is disturbing, terrifying, and scary.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • For book publishers, it is standard to submit a cover letter, synopsis, and sample instead of the full manuscript. Do this unless otherwise instructed.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
