About

Genesis Press is the largest privately-owned African-American book publisher in the country. Founded in Columbus, Mississippi in 1993 by two African-American attorneys, Genesis spawned the Indigo imprint, which was rapidly followed by Indigo After Dark, a series of erotica anthologies, and Love Spectrum, which portrays interracial relationships. Since then, Genesis has steadily increased its reach, and now brings its readers everything from suspense and science fiction to Christian-oriented romance and non-fiction. We are looking for three-dimensional characters, strong writing and interesting, intriguing plots. We are open to non-traditional stories as well as traditional. Elements we accept include, but are not limited to: African American, Multi-Cultural (as long as main character is black. Heroine must be black to be considered for our romance line).

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • For book publishers, it is standard to submit a cover letter, synopsis, and sample instead of the full manuscript. Do this unless otherwise instructed.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
