About

At the Metaphysical Circus, existential angst and philosophic pondering meet quirky characters and compelling plots. We are interested in fiction with a metaphysical slant—fiction that questions consensual reality and pushes the boundaries of genre. We appreciate textures of darkness and light, evocative beauty and transcendental pain. We are not afraid of work that tackles social or political issues, but we like questions better than answers. We like irreverence and satire, symbolism and mythology. We require both entertainment and art. We are most interested in novels suitable for serialization, series of novels or novellas, and writers with a backlist not currently available in ebook formats. We are most interested in publishing works by traditionally underrepresented writers.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • For book publishers, it is standard to submit a cover letter, synopsis, and sample instead of the full manuscript. Do this unless otherwise instructed.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
