Scorpius Books

About

Scorpius Books is an award-winning independent fiction publisher and the 1st UK publisher of dyslexia-friendly fiction for adults, with a core belief that great stories should be accessible to everyone.

Our dyslexic-friendly editions feature a larger, dyslexic-friendly font, along with increased line and letter spacing to prevent blurring, making it easier to decipher each letter and word. They are also printed on creme paper to reduce glare from the contrast of the ink. The covers are matt finished to make reading the blurb easier, which is also formatted the same way. We are working with some amazing authors and are working hard to bring established authors and brands into our dyslexic-friendly mission.

We were named East of England Small Press of the Year 2024 at the British Book Awards, and have been finalists three years running! We were finalists of the British Dyslexia Associations Innovation Award in 2023. We’re members of the Indie Press Network, and the Small Business Sunday Network set up by Theo Paphitis.

We are a fully anti-AI publisher and all of our books are written and created by humans. We are a launch partner of Books By People, an amazing initiative working with publishers to certify books as human-made.

Founded in 2020 amid the COVID pandemic with a core belief that great stories should be accessible to everyone, we’ve built our reputation on change and breaking the rules in an industry very much set in its ways!

Scorpius Books believes in reducing the environmental impact of the publishing industry, and only work with UK printers who hold green credentials, use FSC paper and non-toxic inks. We offer a Book Rescue, where returned books get given a new lease of life and are resold. We have commited to reducing our office paper usage, only accept submissions via email and aim to plant trees to compensate for the publishing industry’s impact on the environment.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • For book publishers, it is standard to submit a cover letter, synopsis, and sample instead of the full manuscript. Do this unless otherwise instructed.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
