Splice About Splice is a small press based outside Edinburgh, Scotland, dedicated to publishing adventurous, unconventional fiction and literary essays. We’re keen on works of prose that break rules, disregard norms, and depart from received ideas about how literature should behave. We’re not into books that unfold like movies in the reader’s mind’s eye. We’re interested in the stylistic and structural potential of the written word.Splice was founded in 2017 by the novelist and essayist Daniel Davis Wood.Over the last ten years, Splice has published novels, collections of short fiction and essays, an anthology, and dozens of reviews of other small press titles.Our books have been longlisted and shortlisted for prizes around the world — including the Miles Franklin Literary Award, the Edge Hill Short Story Prize, and the Republic of Consciousness Prize (twice) — and they’ve also received acclaim in media venues like the Sydney Review of Books, the Guardian, the Irish Times, and the Washington Post.When we publish new books, we do so in phases: so, rather than releasing a book as a one-off, we send it into the world alongside other books with which it resonates. If you read all the books in a given phase, you’ll find them in conversation with one another, despite the initial intentions of the authors, in a way that enriches them all.
