About

Stillhouse Press is an independent book publisher based in Northern Virginia. We publish fiction, nonfiction, and poetry from writers both emerging and established, and are especially drawn to titles that transcend genre, take risks in form and content, and push the boundaries of the narrative and the lyric. Our primary aim is to provide educational opportunity through applied experience in the art of craft publishing — the act of soliciting, acquiring, producing, and marketing work from independent authors — in an effort to forge lasting relationships and foster the growth of the greater literary community.

Fees Notice: This project charges fees (or requires purchases) for all submissions, except for marginalized writers who request a fee waiver. (Note: About 14% of publishers always charge fees.)
The fee range is USD $5 to $20 (below average to above average for publishers that charge).

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • For book publishers, it is standard to submit a cover letter, synopsis, and sample instead of the full manuscript. Do this unless otherwise instructed.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
