About

Anne McDermid was a senior partner of the international literary agency Curtis Brown in London England for twenty years, where she represented literary writers, including Robertson Davies, Pat Barker, Sebastian Barry, Jeannette Winterson, Kathy Acker, as well as writers in more commercial fields, such as Hammond Inness, Tony Hillerman, Tim Sebastian, Arthur C Clarke, and Emma Drummond. Anne was particularly active in representing non-fiction, allowing her personal interests in the women’s movement, the anti-Apartheid movement, and British politics to inform her list. Many distinguished political correspondents, foreign affairs editors, newscasters and politicians of all parties, became clients. Anne founded Anne McDermid & Associates Ltd in Canada in 1996, and began by representing authors already well-known, such as Matt Cohen, Greg Hollingshead, David Adams Richards and Nino Ricci. But soon a generation of younger writers emerged, including Andrew Pyper, Steven Heighton, Nancy Lee, Russell Smith, Lisa Moore, Michael Winter, and Michael Crummey. Currently she continues to work with established voices in fiction, but is also particularly invested in the development of Canadian narrative non-fiction, evidenced in such writers as Charles Montgomery, J.B. MacKinnon, and Michael Harris.
