Carrie Plitt

An agent with Felicity Bryan Associates Literary Agency (see other agents at this agency).

About

I am actively building a list of non-fiction and fiction at FBA, where I represent award-winning and bestselling authors including Reni Eddo-Lodge, Natasha Lunn, Catherine Belton, Joseph Jebelli, Lindsey Hilsum, Suzannah Lipscomb, David Robson and Will Eaves. I am always looking for writers from underrepresented backgrounds, and I welcome submissions from authors writing in English based anywhere in the world.

For 10 years I co-hosted an award-winning books podcast and radio show called Literary Friction with my friend Octavia Bright. We featured some of my favourite authors including Zadie Smith, Naomi Klein, Deborah Levy, Elizabeth Strout, Sally Rooney, Gary Younge and Elif Batuman.

Collapse section Fiction Open

In fiction, the books I represent range from literary fiction to those you might read in a book club. Besides excellent writing, I am often drawn to emotionally complex novels; sprawling narratives about love, friendship or families; and historical fiction that feels alive to our current moment. Some novels I have enjoyed recently are Heart the Lover by Lily King, North Woods by Daniel Mason, What We Can Know by Ian McEwan, Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar, Bel Canto by Ann Patchett and The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo.

Collapse section Nonfiction Open

In non-fiction, I am looking for expert authors who are passionate about their subject, who have something new to say, and who can convey their argument or story in a clear and invigorating way. I have a particular interest in narrative non-fiction, political writing, popular science, popular psychology, history, big ideas, nature writing and travel. I also love book-length essays or cohesive essay collections, and memoirs that explore wider themes or periods of history. To give you a sense of the kind of thing I’m looking for, some non-fiction books I have enjoyed recently are Free by Lea Ypi, Eve by Cat Bohannon, Monsters by Claire Dederer, Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman and Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Agent Impersonation Scams are becoming commonplace.
A legitimate agent will not contact you and request money to represent you. Never pay an agent an up-front fee. That is not how literary agent representation works. Agents earn a commission only after they've landed a publishing deal for you. Also, agents scarcely ever contact writers. If an agent that you haven't queried contacts you about representation, be suspicious. Look up the agent and check if the email address is correct for that agent/agency.
