Erica Rand Silverman

An agent with Stimola Literary Studio (see other agents at this agency).

About

Erica represents a highly selective list of authors and illustrators, and is known for building a shelf of exceptional illustrated books for children that balance kid appeal with a deep respect for the book as object and art form.

She has launched some of the most exciting new talent in children’s books, while also guiding the careers of industry mainstays. Her clients have received some of the highest industry honors such as the Caldecott medal, the Schneider Award, the Geisel Honor, The New York Times Best Illustrated Award, the Society of Illustrators Dilys Evans Founders Award, the Ezra Jack Keats Writing and Illustration Awards, among others. Their books have made their way onto the indie and New York Times Bestseller lists as well as into many different territories around the world.

Beyond her own client list, Erica helps to guide the studio’s growth and industry impact through high level visioning, nurturing and strengthening relationships and partnerships, and positioning the agency as a forward-thinking leader in an evolving marketplace. She is a tireless advocate for the Studio’s talent and proud to work with colleagues and bookmakers who are so thoughtfully shaping the landscape of children’s publishing.

Erica is a former classroom teacher and currently serves on the board of Every Child a Reader, the award-winning literacy charity that is run by the Children’s Book Council.

Each year, Erica accepts a limited number of appearance requests. Currently, she has committed to The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators 2026 Winter Conference in New York City and their Critique Event at the 2026 Bologna Book Fair.

I am most interested in author-illustrator picture books, early readers, chapter books, heavily illustrated middle grade and interesting novelty formats. I am looking for a diverse array of voices, perspectives and styles and respond well to zany with heart, a celebration of the wonder of life and complex characters that explore our inner lives. More specifically, I am looking for:

  • projects that focus on Jewish culture and the modern inclusive experience of being Jewish
  • author-illustrators who take a creative approach to book making stories that explore cultural practices and beliefs as well as lived experiences of people from diverse backgrounds
  • BIPOC and LGBTQ+ book makers
  • clever, interactive and tactile novelty formats
  • comics

Agent Impersonation Scams are becoming commonplace.
A legitimate agent will not contact you and request money to represent you. Never pay an agent an up-front fee. That is not how literary agent representation works. Agents earn a commission only after they've landed a publishing deal for you. Also, agents scarcely ever contact writers. If an agent that you haven't queried contacts you about representation, be suspicious. Look up the agent and check if the email address is correct for that agent/agency.
